Elspeth Thomson studied textile design at Brighton Polytechnic from 1980 to 1984, specializing in woven textile design. In her final year at college she won a number of awards including the prestigious Sir Frank Warner Memorial Medal given by the Royal Society of Arts.

Initially she pursued a career in retail buying with Heals and Simpson’s of Piccadilly. Elspeth then returned to weaving and design on a consultancy basis with a client base, which included such companies as ICI Fibres, East Central Studio, Courtaulds and Jasper Conran.

In 1994 she moved from Berkshire to Lancashire, started a family and started renovating their family farmhouse. Around 1997 Elspeth returned to her first passion of embroidery. What was a hobby, making cards for family and friends has gradually become a business.  

Greeting card designs are now hand made using a variety of textile media, including machine embroidery, appliqué, fabric painting. Hand dyed fabrics are incorporated with iridescent and transparent organza’s to produce a range of exquisite, individual greeting card designs. All cards are made from highest quality boards made in the Lake District from sustainable managed forests, and to the highest environmental standards (ISO14001).

Inspiration is taken from local countryside and favourite artists. These images are then translated in a modern style, reflective of today's stationery market. The individual designs, could also be mounted and framed as small pictures.

All the main greeting card styles are included. including Wedding, Engagement, Anniversary, Christening and New Baby, Christmas, and General, including Birthday.

Each order is created especially for the customer, enabling him to have input into themes, colour etc. Each greeting card is presented with a co-ordinated envelope in a clear cellophane bag for protection. Special occasion cards can have appropriate wording on the front  - "On Your Wedding Day" for example.

Elspeth is supported in her business by her husband, who is in charge of sales and marketing. We have a number of agents and distributors around the country selling the cards to gift shops, galleries and specialised card retailers, please phone to see if there is an outlet near you.
