Inspired by a peaceful afternoon beside the pool at a small boutique hotel in southern France, this embroidery captures a quiet moment of stillness in the summer heat. Looking across the water, layers of colour unfold naturally through the landscape: the turquoise pool, pale stone edging, lavender fields, golden corn, hedgerows, woodland and the wide Provençal sky.

Rather than focusing on detail, the composition simplifies the landscape into broad horizontal bands, allowing colour, texture and stitch to evoke the atmosphere of the place. The gentle quilting of the sky and the shimmering surface of the water reflect the warmth and tranquillity of a day with nowhere to be except the present moment.
