Machine embroidery combining free-motion stitching with digitally embroidered elements
This piece continues my exploration of the French countryside while experimenting with combining traditional free-motion embroidery with digitally created stitched elements.
The foreground seed heads, originally stitched individually by hand in earlier work, have been digitally designed and embroidered directly onto the textile surface, allowing hand and machine processes to work together. This combination opens new possibilities for texture while retaining the layered, tactile quality that characterises my work.
Although inspired by a familiar landscape, the embroidery is ultimately about atmosphere rather than topographical accuracy. It reflects the calm of standing beside a field on a warm day, noticing the movement of grasses, the changing light and the quiet beauty of ordinary places.
