Textile embroidery inspired by the James Webb Space Telescope image of Galaxy NGC3627.

After completing my first galaxy, I found myself wanting to explore the same extraordinary subject from a different perspective. Rather than revisiting the original, I began again, allowing this piece to develop its own character.

Inspired by the breathtaking images from the James Webb Space Telescope, this embroidery focuses on the luminous heart of a spiral galaxy. The glowing stars seem to circle an unseen centre, drawn towards the mysterious heart of the galaxy, where light and darkness seem to exist together. Layers of thread, delicate fibres and tiny sequins build a surface that shifts with the light, suggesting the richness and complexity of deep space.

What fascinates me most about these distant galaxies is the contrast they contain. They are unimaginably vast, yet astonishingly beautiful; scientifically complex, yet emotionally compelling. Looking at them fills me with a profound sense of wonder and reminds me how small our own lives are within the scale of the universe.

Creating this embroidery was less about reproducing an astronomical image and more about translating that feeling of awe into textiles.
