Mist at Råbjerg Mile

W30cm x H42cm (Mist at Skagen)
Machine embroidery with mixed fibres
Inspired by an early evening walk near Råbjerg Mile, Denmark, this embroidery captures the unexpected arrival of sea mist drifting silently across the dunes. What had begun as a walk in bright sunshine was transformed within minutes as the landscape disappeared into a veil of soft light, creating an atmosphere that felt both mysterious and peaceful.
Layers of delicate machine stitching recreate the subtle transitions between mist, sky and land, allowing colours to merge gently rather than forming distinct edges. Pale pinks, soft greens and muted greys evoke the fleeting quality of light as the dunes emerge and dissolve into the surrounding haze. Rather than describing a particular place in detail, the embroidery celebrates the quiet experience of being immersed in a landscape where sound is muted, distance is uncertain, and every step feels wrapped in stillness.
The unexpected mist softened every sound and blurred every boundary, creating the curious feeling of moving quietly through a hidden world, as though the landscape itself encouraged us to tread softly.
