Snook Beach 2

Snook Beach 2 is another interpretation of one of my favourite places on the Northumberland coast. Although based on the same landscape as an earlier piece, this version explores the openness of the beach in a quieter, more atmospheric way.
The wide sky, with its layered blues and turquoise light, stretches above a broad expanse of sunlit grasses leading towards the distant shoreline. Rather than concentrating on individual details, I wanted to capture the feeling of standing in this peaceful landscape, where the land, sea and sky merge into one another beneath an ever-changing light.
The embroidery is created through densely layered machine stitching, using thousands of fine stitches to build colour, texture and depth. The grasses are formed almost entirely from vertical lines of thread, creating a surface that suggests movement in the coastal breeze while retaining an abstract quality when viewed closely.
Like much of my landscape work, this piece is less about recording a particular place than about preserving the memory of being there. It reflects the quiet beauty, space and sense of calm that I always associate with Snook Beach.
