This embroidery is the second of the series inspired by the dramatic skies that often follow a storm. After creating the felted background, I cut the work into strips and rearranged the composition, allowing colour, rhythm and movement to become more important than a literal view of the landscape.

Because the felt had already captured the atmosphere I was looking for, I used only minimal embroidery, letting the rich textures of the fibres remain an essential part of the finished piece. Through this process, I hoped to express not simply the appearance of a stormy sunset, but the fleeting brilliance of light emerging from darkness and the awe I felt beneath such a vast sky.
