The seventh piece in my Stormy Sunset series extends my exploration into the moment when the last light of day burns beneath an overwhelming sky. Again inspired by the panoramic view from my home overlooking the Lancashire landscape towards the distant Irish sea, it captures one of those evenings when dark clouds gather in layers while the sunset continues its journey downwards.

This embroidery is built almost entirely through dry felted layered appliqué and machine stitching, creating rich surfaces that echo shifting cloud formations and the changing textures of the landscape. Bands of glowing orange, crimson and gold are compressed beneath deep charcoal and violet skies, producing a striking contrast between warmth and darkness.

I have tried to further abstract the emotional experience of standing still and watching nature perform its evening drama. The weight of the dark clouds set against brilliant oranges is balanced by the resilience of the remaining light, again trying to capture the sense of tension, atmosphere and quiet anticipation.
