This abstract piece was inspired by an unexpected moment of everyday observation. Looking through my bathroom window on an exceptionally bright sunny morning, I closed my eyes and was greeted by a vivid turquoise-green square, floating against a deep crimson field. The striking colours lingered for several moments, becoming as memorable as the view itself.
Created using densely layered free-motion machine embroidery and needle-felted fibres, the work explores the fleeting images our eyes can create when dazzled by intense light. The glowing green square is framed by rich reds, echoing the remarkable colours I experienced and transforming a simple optical phenomenon into a textile composition.
For me, this bright afterimage has become a symbol of the promise of a beautiful day ahead. It captures that moment of stepping into the morning sunshine, full of anticipation, when even a familiar window can reveal something extraordinary.
